.bcd file extension – What is this?

We have different types of files with the .bcd extension. The first one is the Windows Boot Configuration Data file introduced with Windows Vista; replaces the old boot.ini format used by the NTLDR program; supports the underlying firmware abstraction so that multiple systems can be supported.

Windows BCD initially supported PC / AT BIOS and EFI systems, but it is expandable and can support other firmware as well.

The second BCD file type which is also a system file is the RealView Debugger Board Chip Definition File. This file is used by The RealView Debugger (RVD) ARM processor debugging application included with ARM Development Studio. It describes the registers and memory card for a target integrated circuit; used during the design testing and debugging process saved in a plain text format.
