The world’s first tablet with a 12.1-inch 7:5 large screen, the VIVO PAD 2, has been launched

At today’s launch event, Vivo unveiled the Vivo Pad 2, which, while appearing similar to other Android tablets, boasts a narrower display compared to its 16:10 counterparts, as well as a 144 Hz refresh rate and a high-end chipset, among other notable features.

Compared to the mobile phone market, the global tablet market is relatively unexciting and less competitive. Consequently, the number of tablets released annually is considerably lower. However, with the onset of the pandemic, there was a significant surge in demand for large-screen devices, which prompted many Chinese brands to re-enter the tablet market. While demand has since dwindled, a few brands continue to release tablets. Vivo, for instance, unveiled its inaugural high-end tablet, the Vivo Pad, last year, and has now followed it up with the release of the Vivo Pad 2.

Specifications and pricing

Vivo has recently unveiled its newest flagship tablet, the Pad 2. Despite its similarity to other tablets such as the Apple iPad 10, the Vivo Pad 2 sets itself apart with its unique circular camera housing, a design feature previously seen on the X Flip and the X Fold 2, also released by Vivo.

The Vivo Pad 2 is powered by a 10,000 mAh battery and runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset, boasting up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512 GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage. Its 12.1-inch display has a 144 Hz refresh rate and a 7:5 aspect ratio, which is unconventional compared to the more commonly used 16:10 or 3:2 ratios. The display output is at 2.8K resolution with full DCI-P3 color space coverage and a maximum brightness of up to 600 nits.

Vivo is also offering the Pad 2 with the Pencil 2 and a detachable keyboard cover, both sold separately. Although global availability is not confirmed, Vivo has released pricing for the Pad 2 in its home market. The tablet starts at CNY 2,499 (~US$364) with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage and can be configured with up to 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage for CNY 3,399 (~US$495) at launch.
