Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon Tech Summit Dates and Teases Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Chip

Qualcomm has recently unveiled the official dates for its highly anticipated Snapdragon Tech Summit. This annual event, dedicated to showcasing the latest advancements in mobile technology, is scheduled to take place from October 24th to 26th this year. Notably, the summit has been moved up a month from its usual timeframe, sparking excitement among tech enthusiasts and industry professionals.

One of the key highlights of the Snapdragon Tech Summit will undoubtedly be the unveiling of Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. While official details are yet to be disclosed, leaks have already started circulating regarding its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. According to rumours, the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (SM8650) SoC is expected to feature an updated architecture, transitioning from a “1+2+2+3” setup to a more powerful “1+5+2” configuration. This shift aims to deliver enhanced performance capabilities, especially with the introduction of a higher-frequency performance core.

The manufacturing process of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip is rumoured to utilize the advanced TSMC N4P process, known for its superior capabilities. Reports suggest that the chip will comprise 1 x Cortex-X4 prime core, 5 x A720 performance cores, 2 x A520 power efficiency cores, and an Adreno 750 GPU. Renowned leaker Ice Universe has further hinted that the Adreno 750 GPU is anticipated to offer significant performance improvements compared to its predecessor, the Adreno 740. Notably, an increase in the L3 cache from 8MB to 10MB is also expected in this iteration.

In terms of performance, leaked benchmarks provide an exciting glimpse into the capabilities of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. The device recorded an impressive score of 2563 points in the Geekbench single-core test and 7256 points in the multi-core test. These scores demonstrate noteworthy improvements, particularly in the multi-core test, when compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Additionally, the chip achieved an impressive AnTuTu score of 1,712,271, with the CPU contributing 331,292 points and the GPU contributing 853,295 points.
