Use this free Online Pressure Converter tool to convert from one unit of measurement of Pressure to another. Pressure is the force applied perpendicular to the surface of an object per unit area over which that force is distributed. Gauge pressure is the pressure relative to the ambient pressure. Various units are used to express pressure.
Calculating pressure
- To calculate pressure, you need to know two things:
- Pressure is calculated using this equation:
- pressure = force ÷ area.
The basic unit of pressure is the pascal, defined as the pressure exerted by a force of one newton perpendicularly upon an area of one square metre. In North America, however, the US Customary System is preferred. This is based on Imperial units such as the pound (lb) and inch (in) or foot (ft).
