Google to add a new Dashcam mode feature to its Pixel smartphones

Google is gearing up to introduce an exciting new addition to its Pixel smartphone series: a Dashcam feature. This intriguing feature was recently discovered when it was accidentally leaked on the Play Store, giving us a glimpse of what’s to come. So, let’s dive into what we know about this upcoming feature.

The Dashcam mode was spotted in the latest build of the Personal Safety app, named 2023.04.27.532191641.8-dogfood. This mode allows Pixel users to record both video and audio while driving, as the name implies. Dashcams are incredibly useful as they capture crucial information in case of accidents or other incidents on the road. In addition to the Dashcam mode, the Personal Safety app offers several other noteworthy features such as Emergency Sharing, Car Crash Detection, and Safety Checks.

Once the Dashcam mode is officially rolled out, users will be able to access it conveniently through a dedicated “Dashcam” shortcut on their home page. Even while in Dashcam mode, Pixel phones can still be fully utilized, meaning you’ll have access to essential functions like navigation through Google Maps.

What sets this feature apart is its automatic nature. Users can set their Pixel phones to start recording when they connect to specific Bluetooth devices, such as their car’s stereo system. Once the connection is terminated, the recordings will come to an end as well. To optimize storage efficiency, the app compresses videos to around 30MB per minute, and recordings will be automatically deleted after three days unless saved manually. It’s worth noting that the maximum recording duration is set at 24 hours.

Interestingly, this news follows Google’s recent release of a Kenny G-inspired ringtone for Pixel phones. It seems the tech giant is constantly finding new ways to enhance the user experience and add unique touches to their devices.

So, keep an eye out for the Dashcam mode on your Pixel smartphone. It promises to be a valuable addition that will provide an extra layer of safety and convenience while on the road.
