The OnePlus Fold coming to New York in August 2024

OnePlus has confirmed that it will be launching its first foldable smartphone in the third quarter of this year. The device, which has been codenamed “Project Kraken,” is rumoured to be unveiled in New York in the first half of August.

According to a report by 91Mobiles, the OnePlus Fold will be a clamshell-style foldable with an 8-inch inner foldable display and a 6.5-inch outer display. Both displays will have a 120Hz refresh rate.

The OnePlus Fold will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and will come with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. It will run Android 13 with OxygenOS 13.1 on top. The OnePlus Fold will have a quad-camera system with a 50MP main camera, a 48MP ultrawide camera, a 32MP periscope telephoto camera, and a 32MP front-facing camera.

The OnePlus Fold is expected to be priced at around $1,000. It will compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Google Pixel Fold.

OnePlus has been teasing the launch of its foldable smartphone for some time now. In February, CEO Pete Lau said that the device would be “something special” and that it would “push the boundaries of what a smartphone can do.”

The OnePlus Fold is the latest in a growing number of foldable smartphones that are hitting the market. Samsung has been leading the way in this category, but other companies like Google and Motorola are also getting in on the action.

Foldable smartphones are still a relatively new category, but they have the potential to be a major trend in the years to come. As technology improves and prices come down, foldable smartphones could become the norm for many consumers.
