Microsoft has shared some videos of how its next generation of AI-powered Bing Chat will look like. Microsoft ↗ introduced their AI-powered Bing search engine and Edge web browser three months ago to address the problem of unanswered web searches. Bing combines large language models with a massive search index to offer conversational and current results that cannot be found on other search engines. Bing has gained over 100 million daily active users, with users engaging in over 500 million chats and creating 200 million images since the launch. Bing has also gained share and followed eight quarters of growth in Microsoft Edge browser share. Microsoft plans to introduce Bing to the Windows taskbar, reaching over half a billion customers monthly.

On the 4th of May, 2023, Microsft shared and exciting news about the next generation of AI-powered Bing and Edge that aims to transform the world’s largest category of software – search, by expanding the capabilities that are known as “Your Copilot for the Web.”
One of the first changes is that Bing will now be open to more people, moving from Limited Preview to Open Preview. This means that anyone can try it out without having to wait. The next major change is the move from text-only search and chat to a more visual experience. Bing will provide rich image and video answers, with new multimodal support coming soon.
Bing will also move from single-use chat/search sessions to multi-session productivity experiences. This means that chat history and persistent chats within Edge will be available to help users keep track of their conversations.
Bing now in Open Preview
The new Bing is now available in Open Preview, thanks to the tremendous customer support, engagement, and feedback. The waitlist has been eliminated, making it easier for everyone to try the new Bing and Edge. By signing in with your Microsoft Account, you can get to experience the new features.
Bing has always been known for its visual experiences, and now it’s taking it to the next level. With research showing that the human brain processes visual information much faster than text, Bing is introducing more visual answers, including charts, graphs, and updated formatting. Bing Image Creator has also been expanded to all languages, allowing users to create images in their native language.
Microsoft Edge, where one in four Bing chats originate, is being redesigned with a sleeker and enhanced user interface, including a streamlined look, rounded corners, and semi-transparent visual elements.
Also, Bing is expanding multi-modal capabilities by incorporating visual search in chat. Users will be able to upload images and search the web for related content. These changes are just the beginning, and Bing and Edge continue to be your copilot for the web, with AI capabilities and built-in Bing features.
Microsoft to make search more productive
Based on the information from Microsoft’s blog post, one of the top requested features for Bing chat is the ability to maintain access to chat history and share or export chats. Soon, users will be able to return to previous chats in Bing chat and keep their chat on hand while browsing with Edge sidebar. Bing chat will become more personalized over time by bringing context from a previous chat into new conversations. Export and share functionalities will also be added for easy sharing of conversations with others.
Improvements are also coming to Edge actions, which will use AI to complete more tasks with fewer steps. For instance, Edge actions will find and show you options in chat related to the movie you want to watch and then play it from where it’s available. Edge mobile will also include page context, so you can ask questions in Bing chat related to the mobile page you’re viewing. The compose feature in sidebar will tailor drafts based on feedback you give like tone, length, and phrasing. Additionally, summarization capabilities for long documents, including PDFs and longer-form websites, will be improved to make it easier to consume dense online content.
