Mark Gurman from Bloomberg predicts that the announcement of new hardware at WWDC 2023 will not include the Apple Silicon Mac Pro.
In the latest episode of The MacRumors Show ↗, Gurman stated that the launch of the new Mac Pro is still expected to happen this year, but it is unlikely to occur during WWDC in June, indicating a significant delay from its original expected launch date. He also mentioned that the upcoming Mac Studio refresh will probably not have M2 chips, and Apple may delay its release until the M3 generation to avoid competition with the new Mac Pro.
Gurman additionally revealed that the 15-inch MacBook Air with an M2 chip was initially planned for release last year. This suggests that the 13-inch MacBook Air could have a distinct chip upgrade schedule from its 15-inch counterpart, and the smaller model may receive the M3 chip before the larger one. How Apple plans to manage the chip upgrade cycle of these two devices in the long term remains to be seen.
In a recent development following an earlier report, Gurman has updated his prediction for Apple‘s mixed-reality headset, saying that the “in-air typing” text input method is expected to be available despite its “finicky” user experience. He further stated that the headset’s battery life, which is currently around two hours, may remain unchanged across future generations of the device, similar to the battery life of the two standard Apple Watch models that have not been improved since their launch in 2014.
